TOUS - Aventura Mall.

 

Implementation of the new TOUS store concept at Aventura Mall, Florida.

The project involved transforming an existing store to implement TOUS’s new spatial concept for the first time, including a new design language, furniture, finishes, and brand identity system. The project was subject to a particularly demanding timeline, as the brand’s executive team was scheduled to visit the store during its grand opening.

 

One of the main challenges was adapting the existing facade to the new concept: the original panels had to be replaced to incorporate TOUS’s new identity. Added to this was the complexity of the county’s permitting and inspection process, which required managing specific paperwork and oversight.

My Role

I worked with my team throughout all phases of the project, from design to project handover. I participated in the development of the layout and the technical architectural and mechanical/electrical plans, as well as in the resolution of construction details.

 

I also managed the permitting process, evaluated contractors and bids, coordinated with local engineers to approve plans, and oversaw the ordering and tracking of furniture manufactured and shipped from Europe.

 

During construction, I monitored the project remotely with the contractor, coordinating the various suppliers and stakeholders involved and resolving issues to keep the project on schedule.

Result

Despite a rigorous schedule and the complexity of the permitting and inspection processes, the store was delivered within an exceptionally tight deadline and with a high level of quality in its execution.

 

The project provided particularly valuable lessons in time management, international coordination, and construction site management under pressure, in addition to allowing me to gain firsthand experience with the permitting and inspection processes for construction in the United States.
